Musings of a wannabe Superwoman
  • Just splurged close to US$90 on a couple of DVDs I’ve wanted for months: 즐거운 인생 First Press Limited Edition DVD and 한성별곡 Director’s Cut DVD. Shucks. Where the hell is my self-restraint?! Jannah, you still want that iPhone / iPod Touch, do you?
  • Speaking of which, iPhone 3G is landing in exactly 8 days! Oh gosh, if I end up getting one, please let there not be long queues.
  • I really need to book a hotel room for the HK trip, soon.
  • Why are IM clients on Windows so damn ugly???
  • Going Turkish for team dinner tonight & Italian tomorrow with TKGians, woot! :D
  • I swear, replying emails take up more energy than coding. X_x
  • StreetDirectory.com has their maps back, yay!
  • Am totally craaaaaving the cheese baked rice at Eighteen Chefs right now. Gosh, the TORTURE of PMS-induced food cravings!
  • It’s been ages since I bought a damn good movie on DVD because it’s been ages since a damn good movie came out of Korea.
  • Business law started out surprisingly interesting despite its dry nature. I think it has everything to do with my captivating seminar leader. He actually explains law terms in English! :P
  • Wanted: a high-quality, roomy black tote bag to last me for years. Maybe I should just try to live without one until my Hong Kong shopping trip in November.
  • Firefox 3 on Mac looks uncannily like Safari. O.o
  • I now have a pet dog. :D He’s a basset hound and almost as big as me! Any name suggestions?

Just came home from a dinner with my colleagues in town. I ate almost as much as my boss did, which says a lot considering he’s a big guy. We were the only ones who had two full servings of rice – each. He was very surprised. Haha. I think he’s only seen me devour extra helpings of pizza but never rice. I don’t know why, but recently I’ve been polishing off every plate of food plus more. It’s no wonder I love my boss; he’s always feeding me!

The dinner was a farewell do for my teammate who’s leaving this week. He’s the one I’ve worked most closely with, the one I’ve learnt plenty from, and the one who’s given me the most trouble. I’ll miss him.

Sigh. I wonder who’ll leave next.

  1. I received my YUI albums in the mail! God I love her music. Oh no, I feel tempted to start a whole YUI collection now.
  2. My credit card arrived in the mail too. Honestly though, having your name engraved on plastic doesn’t feel as exhilarating as I imagined. :P
  3. He’s (finally) crawled out of his hole & resumed normal programming. Which includes asking me questions I don’t know how to answer. Sigh.
  4. I found the book I’ve been looking for (The Buzan Study Skills Handbook by Tony Buzan) here at a local bookstore.
  5. Went to Zingdo with Mama yesterday and finally got a taste of 떡 (ddeok), a glutinous Korean rice cake that tastes rather spongy & squishy, like nothing I’ve tasted before. Next time I’m there, I’m going to try the stir-fried ddeok.
  6. This weekend will be my first free weekend in months. No school, no deadlines!

The department head treated my team for dinner at Siam Kitchen last night. Yummy food & plenty of bitching about crazy clients & vendors make for a good time. Haha.

It’s nice how close we’ve all become. I see my teammates almost every single day and talk to them all the time, and the five of us are practically like siblings now. No, wait. I actually see them more often than I do my own siblings! We share food, argue over little things, poke fun at one another, complain about screw-ups in our respective projects, help one another out, and annoy the hell out of each other sometimes. If I could choose my team again, I’d join the same one in a heartbeat. I’m proud of the rapport we’ve built and proud that other teams see us as the most “happening” team. We love our “dad” and the fact that he really cares about us even though he may not be around all the time.

I’ve been very fortunate when it comes to friends, bosses & co-workers. Thank you God, for always letting me meet good people.

At times like this, I realise with a start that I actually do like my job. I take it for granted sometimes, having been with the company for a while and growing to be pretty good at my job. But today, I remember why I’m still sticking around despite the crap I have to deal with. I remember that my reasons for staying far outweigh the reasons why I should be leaving. I remember what’s kept me going the past few years.

I am so glad I know what I want.

Jannah's surprise birthday cake

My teammates surprised me with this on my birthday. How sweet of them. I was so engrossed in my work, I didn’t suspect a thing even when someone switched off the lights. Must admit I was really embarrassed when everyone started singing “Happy Birthday”. At work, I almost never step into the centre of attention despite having worked in the company longer than most others.

The cake was great!

We went to ZingDo & I finally got my bibimbap. Yum! I think I would’ve liked it more if not for the raw egg yolk that came with the dish. I don’t even eat half-cooked eggs! But the yolk was already placed in the middle of the bowl, squished in between the veggies & the chicken. So I thought, What the heck, I’m hungry. And I just mixed it all up & ate it. It would’ve been too much trouble to get the egg yolk out.

Mama had bibimbap too, and everyone else had bulgogi with kimchi soup & rice. The kimchi soup tasted good, but was a little dilute for my taste. If only there was kimchi jjigae on the menu.

Anyway, enough about the food. (My mind’s already diverting to which Korean eatery I’m going to try next. Tsk.) Read the rest of this entry »
